AADT Prediction
This documentation provides a step-by-step guide on accessing, configuring, running, reviewing, and updating AADT predictions, ensuring users can accurately forecast traffic volumes using various source types and methodologies.
1. Access AADT Prediction Module
-
Navigate to the Traffic Study > Tools module
-
Select AADT Prediction from the left-hand panel
2. Add a New Project
-
Click the + Add button to create a new prediction project
-
Choose whether the prediction will be for an Intersection or Road Segment
3. Configure AADT Prediction Project Settings
-
Enter a Title and a brief Description for the project
-
Define the following settings:
-
Growth Factor: Applies a percentage growth rate to historical data for projections. By default it is at 2%.
-
Max Variation in AADT: Defines the maximum percentage change allowed between historical and predicted AADT values. The software will not predict a future year's AADT if it's prediction is above this threshold, and will label the prediction as zero.
-
Show Data for Last Years: Determines how many years of historical data will be displayed.
-
From Year and To Year : Sets the historical range of years used for prediction
-
Prediction Years: Defines the future years for which AADT values will be predicted.
-
Exclude Years: Allows users to exclude certain years from the prediction process.
-
Source Type to Use: Determines the method used for predicting AADT values. Please refer to the AADT Source Type module to view the different source types.
-
4. Run AADT Prediction
-
Click the Run Prediction button
-
You will receive an email notification when the prediction is completed
-
Note: Running AADT Prediction does not automatically update AADT values in TES Cloud
5. View AADT Prediction Results
The predicted results are displayed with the following columns for each year:
-
Current Year Data:
-
Major – The AADT value for the major road.
-
Minor – The AADT value for the minor road.
-
Source – The method used to determine the AADT for that year (e.g., "Linear Regression," "Growth from Count"). Note that the values will be
-
-
Predicted Year Data :
-
Major/Minor – The projected AADT values based on the selected prediction method.
-
Source – The methodology used for prediction.
-
Quality – A measure of confidence in the predicted AADT values
-
Note: If the current year's major and minor AADT values are populated, then the predicted major and minor AADT values will be 0 as they do not require prediction.
-
-
Status – Indicates whether the AADT prediction process was successful for a given location.
6. Review Predicted Values
-
Double-click on a specific record to review its details.
-
A table will appear showing historical, current, and predicted AADT values.
7. Edit Predicted Values
-
To modify a predicted value, click the pencil icon to enter edit mode.
-
After making changes, click the Save Icon to apply the edits.
-
If you want to cancel your changes, click the Cancel Icon
-
Once a value is manually modified, its Source Type will automatically change to User Modified Permanent .
8. Review AADT Prediction Graph
-
A graph displaying Current, Predicted, and Final AADT values over time will appear when scrolling down.
-
The X-axis represents the years, while the Y-axis shows the AADT volume.
-
Different colored lines indicate Total, Major, and Minor AADT values, with toggles to show/hide specific categories.
-
Users can analyze trends, compare model predictions to actual data, and edit values using the pencil icon . After modifications, click SAVE to update or CANCEL to discard changes.
9. Update AADT Values
-
To apply the predicted values across TES, select the records by check-marking the rows you want to update
-
Click the Update button at the bottom right of the table
