Network Screening - EB Method

This documentation provides a step-by-step guide on accessing, configuring, running and reviewing, Network Screening (NWS) results.

1. Select Analysis Type

Select Network Screening – Empirical Bayes Method under Analysis Type.

2. Overview

  • The method has two tabs: Results and Errors .

  • When you first open Results , no data will be displayed.

  • Open the Settings and enable Editing to configure analysis parameters.

3. Settings

  • Modify analysis settings if needed:

    • Update the title , years, months, or specific days for data.

    • Select involvement types like animal , bicycle , or pedestrian .

    • Specify initial impact type and road/weather conditions.

    • Adjust settings for window length , site prioritization weights , and safety measures (IRR) .

  • Save settings to enable analysis results.

4. Results

  • Access the Results Tab after saving

  • you will see a data grid of all the locations inside of the site lists.

  • View metrics such as

    • Ranks

    • Excess and Observed Fatal and Injury

    • Predicted Fatal and Injury

    • Expected Fatal and Injury

    • Observed, Predicted, and Expected Totals.

5. Errors

  • The Errors Tab identifies issues preventing accurate analysis.

  • Common errors include:

    • Missing AADTs or collisions for a location.

    • Missing Site Subtypes assigned to a location.

  • These errors will not block the analysis but may reduce accuracy.

  • Ensure all necessary data is provided to optimize results.

6. Map Tool

  • Select locations and display their ranks visually on the map.

  • Use map tools to zoom in or inspect specific areas.

7. Map Display Options

Click the Tile Icon beside the map to access display options

8. Map Display Options

Choose one of the following:

  • Show Excess Rank : View locations ranked by excess collisions.

  • Show Expected Rank : View locations ranked by expected collisions.

9. Locations on the Map

The map will display all analyzed locations with their corresponding ranks
